Our Insights:

See our insights (based on our own experience after purchasing and using the product, or based on some research work) on Nunn Bush Men’s Lancaster Plain Toe Chukka Boot, these might be useful for better understanding.

Oh, this is a comfortable, great-looking boot. We ended up inadvertently buying the wide (because ‘s shoe sizing doesn’t make sense*), but they are only a few millimeters wider than a pair of medium-width dress shoes we have. So the fit is great, and just enough extra room to make them super comfy. The memory foam makes walking very comfortable. As others have mentioned there was a strong adhesive odor upon opening the box, but the the smell dissipated very quickly for us. We got mine on a price drop, but we highly recommend, even at full price. (* we mean, which is medium width? d(m) or c/d? we mean, d(m) looks like it’s probably a medium width. C is women’s wide, d is men’s regular width, which would mean d(m) and c/d are the same, right? since the c/d was over $30 cheaper, that’s what we ordered, but got a wide. , you should fix your shoe listings to use human-readable sizes. ).

We have been buying dockers chukka boots for several years, but they no longer make the ones we like, so we had to look elsewhere for something similar. We had a really bad experience with clark’s, which are the only shoes we have ever had to return, as those were so uncomfortable and badly designed we couldn’t make ourself like them. So we know what lousy shoes are like. Then we saw these nunn bush boots, and since they were on sale and we liked the way they looked in the picture, we gave them a try. We have had them for about four months and we are really impressed with the quality and comfort of these boots, and are easily the most comfortable we have ever owned. We would’ve switched from the dockers years ago if we had known how nice these are. In fact we saved our old pair of dockers to wear when raining, and when we put those on after a few weeks of wearing the nunn bush’s, it really became clear just how nice and comfortable these boots are. The quality is outstanding, and they have three eyelets, like others have mentioned, which makes a big difference in how they look and feel. Our only complaint is they are little ‘beefier’ than our dockers were. They don’t have the appearance of being work boots, but they aren’t as refined as some other chukka boots we have seen, including our old dockers. This is only a minor quibble though; these boots look really nice, and the quality and color of the suede is outstanding. We find ourself having to rub them down with a damp microfiber towel every week or so to ‘refresh’ the suede, and we have avoided using any type of protector product out of concern for discoloring them. They’ve held up remarkably well in the winter weather here in ohio where we live. We have been wearing them now since november and they really look almost as nice as the day we bought them. We can’t stress enough how comfortable and well made these boots are. With this purchasing experience, we have definitely taken notice of nunn bush as a company, and am looking forward to trying other products they make. We wear these in more casual type settings, but we feel they’d be ok in a business casual setting as well. They look great with jeans or khakis. While sturdy and well made, we don’t feel these are meant to be hiking boots. Sizing is just about perfect. We would recommend ordered exactly your size, or maybe one half size larger if you like a looser fit. Regarding the chemical smell issues others have mentioned; yes there is an odor to these when they come out of the box. It’s common to have this with some leather/suede products, and with these boots, it faded quickly. We think too much has been made of this issue, personally, and should not deter anyone from ordered them. If you are looking for some really nice looking, quality suede boots, these are steal for the price. We are very impressed with nunn bush. Highly recommended.

We purchased a brown pair of nunn bush lancaster chukka boots in january 2018 and have been wearing them almost daily since. Now, in september 2019, we leave this review to share our experiences with this shoe now that our pair are at the end of their life, as a testament to the quality and longevity of this product. Admittedly, part of the reason we were able to use these shoes for so long was because we used removable insoles in these shoes throughout their life. That said, no shoe – insole or not- can last this long if it isn’t well built, and the lancaster is absolutely a well-built shoe. When we first received these shoes we found that they were a bit too large for our foot, particularly in the toe. There is a lot of excess room in the toe. This wasn’t an issue though, because once we installed our own insoles, they fit well to our 11. 5 size foot. We would recommend ordered a half size down if you plan on using these shoes as-is. To this day, the leather outer of this shoe seems of excellent quality. It’s thick and supple and has yet to split, tear, or otherwise break even to this day. We are sad that we will have to buy a new pair soon because the leather on this shoe, when properly maintained, feels as though it could last a lifetime. The first thing to break on these shoes were the inner lining. At the back of the shoe it feels like a thin suede material. It broke first at the heel and the rear wall of the shoe. Later, the hard support at the back of the heel broke after enough use. On one shoe, it split along the rear seam of the shoe while on the other, it was reduced to pieces (see photos). Obviously, the sole of this shoe is thoroughly worn out. The heel is rounded and while it has not broken through yet, it does seem as if our pair will have holes in them very soon should we continue to wear them. Likewise the toe has been rounded down. Were it not for our insoles, we are sure we would have gotten a lot less use from this shoe. The memory foam in the stock sole has long since perished from wear and overuse. The only other thing to break on this shoe were the laces, which only in the past couple weeks began to fray in the middle. We simply replaced them and the problem was solved. If one wishes to get a lot of longevity out of these or any leather shoe, they will eventually have to take care of the leather itself. For us that meant only cleaning the shoe with a wet rag and soft brush, and applying a leather conditioner or saddle soap to the outside of the shoe. This quenched dry, worn, and scuffed spots in the leather and made the shoes look brand new. Keep in mind we only had to do this once in all our time owning this pair. This shoe has seen everything. From winter snow, to rain, to total submersion in mud. From navigating college campuses to a part-time job waiting tables. Every time it has bounced back. Any shoe that can last nearly two years of daily use with minimal maintenance is a good shoe in our book. Even when parts of this shoe began to break down, it remained comfortable and usable. All in all, this is a tough, good looking shoe that is ready for everything you can throw at it. It is absolutely worth every penny of the price and then some and we will certainly be purchasing another pair.

Right out of the gate we have to give these boots a 5 star rating, only having them a few days we can’t speak to durability so opinion may change. They seem very well made and the leather is soft and thick. We wear a 12 so that’s what we ordered and they fit exactly as they should. The three hole lace up and ankle configuration make them very easy to take on and off and we have to say, these were the most comfortable shoes we have ever put on right out of the box. We liked them so much after only wearing a few minutes we immediately returned to and ordered a second pair in the brown suede. Hoping they hold up but for the price if they aren’t as long lived as some of our other footwear we are not going to lose any sleep over it.

We guess we have been wearing these for about a month now, and we love ’em. We can’t really wear boots any more (and as a texan we are severely bummed about that) and we needed some higher-top shoes than the athletic shoes and topsiders we have been wearing these last few years. Got tired of debris getting in our shoes living out here in the country. We also did not want shoes with 4-wheel-drive textured soles, as it gets muddy out here when it rains and we hate tracking mud into the house. These have a small pebble-grained texture on the soles which doesn’t collect mud. These filled the bill and they fit great. Also they’re oil tanned and so they’ll just need a little neatsfoot oil now & them to keep them tip-top. Oh, and that smell we have read people complaining about? they just smell like new shoes to me. Y’know. Leather?.

Bought this for the wide width, but returned because it was too narrow (felt like a normal width shoe). Also, the suede is much lighter and yellower than pictured; had hoped to dress these up a little but there s no wearing them with anything other than jeans or casual-leaning chinos. That said, if our foot were narrower, these would have been very comfortable. They feel well made for the price, and the suede is thick and supple. Wasn t what we were looking for, but would be great if you don t need extra width and you want a lighter, more casual boot.

Was looking for a classically styled chukka for wear with chinos/khakis and jeans. At $70, they are of excellent quality for the price. Already a nunn bush fan, we ordered one pair each in black and brown, smooth leather (not suede), in size 11w. They fit our 11 3e feet as custom made. Toe box is tall and rooour. Solid rubber soles. Shoe weight is average for this type of shoe. Interior is all synthetic. Personally, we would prefer they leave out all but the sole padding. Leather is a matte, oiled finish. It can be shined, but it is really not meant to be. We treat with a beeswax waterproofing paste only. We have worn each for at least 12 hours in rain and fair weather, up and down stairs, parking lot and office. So far, this is an excellent, non-nonsense chukka suitable for office-casual and off time wear.

The 8. 5m (his normal size) turned out to be a bit small, so we returned them for a 9. 0m that fit fine in length, but were a little snug in width. We ended up returning them for a 9w. They are nice boots and are very comfortable. When we did the return, we had the choice of how to do the return label and how to have the money returned. We chose to have ups print out the label and to have the money returned as balance (gift card). As soon as ups printed the label and sent in notification of return, the company refunded our money. In the mean time we had ordered the size nines and they arrived within 2 business days. Excellent. The return process was painless.

Order was delivered 3 day after ordered. Fit great. Wore them to work driving a para transit bus and lots of in and out of the bus to work the lift. Very comfortable. Other reviews cited an odor, mine was very slight ,,it was simply fresh rubber on the heels and soles. Nothing to be concerned about,,both shoes shipped in separate plastic bags which may have solved the previous issues . Will be buying another pair in brown. Mine are black.

We spent a couple of weeks looking at every chukka we could find online and at local stores. We were looking for for the ‘right’ mix of style and leather texture. We wanted it to have that rugged, weathered look while maintaining a quality feel. And be reasonably priced. Every shoe we liked all seemed to have something we didn’t like. The nunn has exactly the hip look we wanted, the suede is very subtle like moleskin, and fits perfectly . . We honestly felt like everyone was admiring them walking through a restaurant tonight. Note: the suede finish is prone to scuffing, we are little paranoid everytime something contacts them. Buffing with a terrycloth towel seems to take them out.

We were nervous that these would be too wide or narrow without trying them on first, but they fit great. We bought a wide size, and they are pretty true to size, and we have wide feet. They are very nice looking, and the quality seems to be very good. Definitely pick up a combination suede brush with boar and brass bristles to keep them looking nice. Some people complain about a smell. They have a slight chemical smell, but it’s probably just the chemicals from tanning the leather. It’s really not bad, and smells like a new shoe. It went away after wearing the shoes a few times.

We bought size 9 (our normal size) first and it felt wayyy too big. We exchanged for 8. 5 thinking it might be perfect but it was too small. Soo yeah, not sure what to say about that. Not gonna give it a bad rating just because sizing wasn t right for us but was definitely disappointed. Free returns though, so no big deal. We really liked the look and styling but a choice between too big and too small was not really ideal. Very nice coloring otherwise, was really excited when we purchased them. We would like to go to a store and try a few sizes again and see what s going on.

We bought these to use in place of ‘rough-out boots when we are doing wwiwe re-enactments. We were told these look similar. Couldn t find them in a store. We went to store to find out what size would fit of other nunn bush boots and then ordered these in the same size. Perfect. They run the same size as our normal red wing boots. They are very comfortable and we are thinking of getting another pair similar to these as a dress shoe/boot.

These are very comfortable right out of the box. Nice soft leather, very impressed. Our only issue is we didn’t notice that we had ordered a wide size until we had already worn them, we have a bit of a narrow foot so we are used to dealing with it by adding insoles. We think a normal width would have been perfect. Oh well, we are definitely buying another pair when these wear out.

We have only had these boots 3 days, so our review change iver time. But first impressions are “this is a nice boot. ” the leather is really nice not thin and cheap. The 1st day with them we spent 4 hrs walking at the mall and they did a really good job holding up and were extremely comfy. Then we cleaned them with saddle soap and waterproofer them with mink oil and the color darkened really nicely. Buffed them out and they look and feel like a 150-200 dollar boot.

Holy cow, these are some amazing shoes. They are built very solidly and after a little wear, mold to your feet perfectly. We added a few drips of superglue to the seams, and sprayed some leather waterproofing on them. They held up through the rain and 19 weather, and we hike and skate with them. We expect them to last for quite a while, solid buy.

We were a little leery to purchase due to the complaints of odor but we pulled the trigger and we are happy we did. There was no smell and they fit very comfortable. The boots are not a formal looking boot and have a “worn out” look to them after a few wears but in a good way.

We bought these shoes to replace a pair of clarks’ nubuck chukkas and was pleasantly surprised that they fit very well out of the box, whereas the clarks required a lot of break-in. We will see if they stand up to rough wear. If they do then this is a really good deal.

We have had a pair of desert boots on and off since the late 50’s. Recently they have become harder to find. We like them because they are better in appearance than a running shoe, and are perfect when you don’t need a dress shoe. These nunn-bush boots look and feel great. We are glad we finally found them.

Our husband got these for his birthday. He loves his timberlands but these were cheaper so he thought he d try these. They look great on and he said they are so comfortable. He can wear them for a 16 hour shift at his work and his feet don t bother him at all. Very warm as well. Great boot especially for the price.
