Frequently Asked Questions:
Here are a few frequently asked questions and answers on Sunbeam Warm Steam Vaporizer Humidifier Filter.
Auto Shut Off? How Long Will It Run When Full?
Depends upon the amount of minerals in water. we have well water through a carbon filter and itruns between 8 and 10 hours. we started buying water out of the machine in the local grocery store and it runs better than 24 hours. But less humidity.
Have Automatic Off?
Technically, no.But when the water runs out, it stops.
We Sleep In An Air Conditioned Room. Will This Help With The Dry Air?
It might. But you’d be dealing with 2 totally opposing machines; the vaporizer/steamer, which is designed to add humidity; and the a/c unit, which removes humidity.we would think that unless you adjust the a/c to a higher temp (so it doesn’t run as often), it will ultimately prevail in the humidity war.
Is It Ul Approved? Also Does The Top Hook On So It Can’T Be Pulled Off By Mistake?
Idk what UL is. But the top just twists on, no hook but you can’t pull it off just twist it. we love the hot steam it gives off.
Does Anyone Who Have Used This Notice White Particles And Black Particles In Water After Running The Unit? Any Idea What It Is?
have found that filtered or bottled water leaves less build up on the heating element. Thus less particles.
Does This Unit Have A Fan Or A Night Light? We Want Quiet Operation And No Light So We Can Sleep.?
This unit does not have a night light. The only noise is when the steam is rising from it. we haven’t used it since last season so we are not able to remember exactly how loud it was. There is also no fan.
Is The Plastic Supposed To Get Really Hot?
Just around were the vapor comes out. But not super hot.
How Do You Fill It?
You simply hold the bottom half, place another hand at the top and twist. But this is not a good product.Presently collecting dust in our closet.
Hi May I Know If This Vaporizer Run With Asia 220V ?
No we don’t think so, we think 220v might be too high for 110v.
Is This Made Of Plastic Or Metal? Won T Steam With Plastic Have Chemicals In The Vapor?
Plastic. The heating element in the cap of the vaporizer is metal .and it corrodes very quickly. In between filling it up you need to dump out what is left in the water reservoir because it is dark with dissolved metal. we don’t know what type of metal it is but we imagine that it isn’t good for you to be inhaling it in t Plastic. The heating element in the cap of the vaporizer is metal .and it corrodes very quickly. No, you just fill the reservoir with tap water and plug it in.
Can I Use Essential Oils With This?

How Many Watts?
It should say on the box. If the box is long gone, we would try the Sunbeam web site.
Will It Work With Cannabis?
No. It’s not that kind of vaporizer. It’s to add humidity to the air.
We Are Confused. How Does The Medicine Vaporize When It S Just Sitting There On Top?
we believe the steam warms the medicine bowl from below so that the medication evaporates and is carried into the room with the steam. However, don’t bet the farm on our answer because we never use any medication with a vaporizer. Bothers our relative. How Do You Fill This Unit? From The Top?
Yes, the top twists off and you fill the large chamber either at a sink or by pouring water to fill.
Did You Notice A Spike On Your Electricity When Using This Devise Regularly? Thanks?
Not really, but we only use it at most one-third of the month and only at night and only in the winter.

Does This Humidifier Create Condensation On Furniture And Floors?
we have two in our house. One in a bedroom and the other in the living room.we have them going all the time.No condensation at all. They really do help with static in the rooms and our skin is way less itchy. They are easier then humidifiers and way cheaper.
Will This Increase The Humidity In Our Small Room To Above 60%?
we think it can, but it will depend on a number of things: the outside humidity where you live, how “tight” your room is, and whether there is any other source of moisture in the room.
See our insights (based on our own experience after purchasing and using the product, or based on some research work) on Sunbeam Warm Steam Vaporizer Humidifier Filter, these might be useful for better understanding.
Boy, we love this vaporizer. No complaints, and even though many other people have commented on the noise, low steam volume and rusty water. We find none of these problems to apply at all. It expels a nice large stream of steam, works for about 6-7 hours, ans is a breeze to clean compared to other companies similarly priced models. It’s great for a large room as well. When we put it in our 500 sf studio, the room gets super-humid in a couple of hours. For anyone looking to add humidity to a room, you should know that while their are many types of humidifiers – ultrasonic, evaporative, and so on, it’s all about water. They all humidify the environment. The size of the vapor droplets really don’t matter, the point is to simply add moisture to the air. If you’re tired of complex machinery and white dust from ultrasonic gizmos, this is a great way to simplify your life. This is the best item we have seen of it’s category. Highly recommended.
The humidifier is great. But there should be a better warning for how hot the steam truly is. The lights were off and we were reaching across our bedside table to turn on our noise maker and our arm stretched across the steam section for no more than 2 seconds and we have a blistering burn from it. Just a warning for those of you with kids.
Simple is the word that comes to mind, simply unscrew the top fill with cold water screw the top back on and plug it in done. This is good for the bedroom sitting next to your bed on a nightstand or nearby this is not something that’s going to work in a open room like a living room or dining room, you’ll hear the water bubbling and boiling in the unit and steam comes out of the top not forcefully adjust wafting into the air. Good for a baby kids room or your own adult bedroom. As for the shut-off don’t know yet but like others have said it just shuts off when it is empty you might say it’s the same as automatic shut off.
We needed a vaporizer to combat the extremely arid winter months that dry our nasal passages up and make us want to die. Okay, not exactly but we digress. This one was the most economical choice to be made so here it is. It looks like a giant hershey’s kiss with the top broken off. There are design flaws that we have noticed in our initial seven or so times we have run the unit. First, there’s no on and off button. You fill the container and plug it in. Secondly, the water container has a small opening and because of its bottom heavy design you can’t neatly fill it in the tub because it can’t go completely underneath the spigot. You wind up tipping it and sorta getting most of the water flow into it. We have also noticed when we pour out the remainder of the water for a new batch that there are black pieces of debris in the container. We haven’t quite pin pointed what they are or how they get there. We merely rinse it out and fill it to the line and plug it in. We unplug it before it goes empty though we have let it run to empty before and it has shut off. So, in summation all of the factors we had to give it a solid four stars. If those mentioned flaws weren’t there it would’ve been five because for the price the value’s there.
Along with the sunbeam we have the vicks 1. 5 gallon also. The sunbeam puts out copious amounts of steam, and is spent in about 3 hours. The vicks will last much longer. Sunbeam is much louder, however this doesn’t bother us as it makes sense considering how much steam is being pumped out. Also, it’s not in our bedroom. We are glad we have both, vicks for the nighttime, and the sunbeam is a beast in the day. For 14 bucks it’s worth every penny.
Pros: does overall good job – works fine. Like that the top doesn’t “spit” like the vicks vaporizer models we have had in the past. Cons: we noticed the plastic bottom gets very hot to the touch. Even after we changed outlets and plugged into a grounded outlet strip – still gets hot. We ended up putting this this on a small stand.
We breathe better at night with this vaporizer, so we will count that a win. It is small. The gurgling noise is very soothing and pleasant. The design does make filling/emptying a little awkward (as other reviewers have noted). Not a deal-breaker. For the effects and the price, we would buy it again if it broke. We live in chicago and we have to add a little salt to the water to produce the amount of steam we like. If you get too much steam/noise, add filtered water to reduce the minerals in your water supply.
The sunbeam vaporizer unit we received is noiseless and puts out a good amount of steam. It’s about twice as large as we expected, but handles a lot of water. Instead of buying distilled water we put a quarter cup of white vinegar in tap water, as we have very hard water. The sunbeam vaporizer seems like a great bargain as it’s affordable and works very well so far, and we like the simplicity of the design.
It heats water and makes it humid in your room. It seems to last a full 7 – 8 hours per refill and is not too loud – kind of a white noise bubbling. There are no dumour lights to show it is on – so don’t be a dumour like us and put your hand in front of the output to see if it really is emitting hot steam and burn yourself. Use filtered water if possible since mineral build up is normal on this type of device.
There were other reviewers who had problems with this device running out of water overnight. We got it for our daughter’s room due to a chronic cough. We have run it for twelve hours overnight with no problems. If you did have concerns or wanted to run it for longer, a timer, as another reviewer recommended, is not a bad idea. For on/off seasonal use, it should be fine as a stand alone though, as long as you check it regularly.
We like this product because easy to clean and definitely works for easier breathing.
We have used the kaz vaporizers for years and would replace them every season or so. We ordered these this year as a replacement and found they work better than the kaz. The steam is nice and steady and doesn’t over steam the room. Plus, the water lasts all day long. We also noticed the water isn’t black when we empty it.
It is not perfect, but after checking reviews on all available models on . Com, this one is still the only model that we would purchase presently, because:1. It is inexpensive. 2. It gives out hot steam so we don’t have to worry about the vapor spreading any molds or germs3. We also don’t have to worry about water leaking out from the bottom like some of the designs with inverted containers4. It automatically shuts off when water level is below the reach of the electros5. It has a nice look, both the color and the shape. 6. It is small enough so that we can handle the weight when filled with water7. There is no costly filters neededwe have a large bedroom(14’x21′), so the amount of vapor produced by this tiny vaporizer don’t really change the humidity of the room much, however, when placed near our pillow side, it made a noticeable difference in helping to alleviate the dry nose/throat problem, so it served the purpose well. When new and clean, it ran for 8+ hours on one filling and lasted through the sleep, but there is a problem with it’s design. The top opening is too small, making it very hard to clean, and very hard to fill water directly under a faucet. We had to use a pitcher and sometimes the hand-held showerhead to fill it, but because we can never get it as cleaned as it should be, after 2 winters, it became too filthy to work efficiently so we had to replace it. We did look at other and newer models this time around, but still decided on the same one because, for us, its pluses over-weigh its minuses, and it still seems like a better choice over the rest.
Being from ne ohio, we can have some pretty rough winters, which means lots of dry air. (booo. ) we needed a humidifier for the our nose and throat. So, we started looking into humidifiers, and was surprised how expensive most of them were. Then, we learn there are two types. ? all we wanted was something that would get us through the night, and sunbeam delivered. Sure, you can’t adjust the amount of steam – we just looked at it like it was one less thing that could break. It puts out plenty of steam, and gets us through the night. The bad: it does have some black/brown bits that come out of the ‘filter?’ during use – the issue we have with it (mind the 4 stars) is because when you want to clean out the reservoir, the base is concave, thus making it much harder than it should be to get the water and the black and brown bits out. So, we would recommend filling it with water, shake it over the tub, inspect (if) bits (are) left, fill with water, and repeat until it is clean. Besides that, for $20 we can’t really complain. Just make the opening convex if ya could sunbeam :).
Description is off on the time it runs. We think there may have been a typo? 2-8 hours sounds more reasonable than 28, depending on how much water you put in it. The longest mine has ran is 6-8 hours on a full tank. The person who said they had shooting sparks may have gotten a defective one. Mine has sat plugged in for a few hours after it ran out of water, and we didn’t have any problems with it. Not sure if it shut off or just stopped steaming because there was no more water. We only gave 4 stars because of the description, and a manufacturing flaw. There is a quite a bit of hard water build up after running a full tank. If they would have cut a v to the edge on the top of the tank so all the water could flow out and empty completely, instead of the hole in the middle of the tank, it would be easier to get all of the hard water deposits out. We suppose you could do this yourself, the plastic is sturdy enough to still hold up the steamer if you did. You’ll just have to use a very sharp utility knife and hope you don’t cut yourself. The design of the tank will allow you to do this, as the water fill line is not near the top, and there would be no chance of spillage if you cut a small v to the edge. We have been enjoying the use of mine in our bedroom, as it does put out a fair amount of steam, and we haven’t been waking up with a bloody nose because the air is so dry. Update: after running our vaporizer for two weeks the hard water build up really cut down on the steam output. After researching online we found this info to be helpful. We got a half gallon of distilled vinegar and mixed it with a half gallon of water for a 50/50 mixture and filled the vaporizer to the fill line and let it soak for a couple of hours in this solution. We poured the mixture back into a gallon container to save for the next soaking and rinsed both section of the vaporizer very well and the output of steam is back to what it was when the product was new. A suggestion was given to add a 80% water 20% distilled vinegar solution to the vaporizer and run it like this so you don’t have a large build up, but only if you can hang with the smell of vinegar. We think we will use the soaking method instead. We are very happy with this vaporizer so far. We did what we suggested in our original review, and cut a v at the top of the tank for easy cleaning of the hard water deposits and the vaporizer is running well, and is very easy to clean out. It’s also easy to fill in a bathroom sink now. If any major flaws show up we will update our review again.
Works very good for a small humidifier. We purchased a smaller sized humidifier this time. We are 67 years old and have a hard time lifting the larger humidifiers when they are full. This will make it a full 12 hours before needing water. Works for us.
This is awesome we recomend it for any house hold that has pets or aleregie problems.
So far so good. Salt helps activating steam. The design of the bottom makes it tricky to pour out all the water. So we had to cut a dent to make the job easier. Other than that, all good.
Best option out there. We have had this for several winters and we strongly recommend it. A couple of times we have thought about replacing it just because we were curious about other types (essence oils, lights, different sizes), but after checking the options we keep coming back to the conclusion that we already have the best option:-it has lasted several years. -it runs for several hours, definitely more than a night. -zero risk of it ever leaking, given its design. -it turns off automatically – within the min and max levels, you can fill with more or less water, depending on how long you want it to run each time. -not noisy. -we clean it (as in quickly wash it) every 2-3 times and that keeps it in perfect shape. -price is extremely good. -it truly gets the job done, we bought after a doctor suggested we get a humidifier and this has made a huge difference to the quality of our sleep.
