Can We Use Essential Oils In This?
Part 2- please read part 1 of our answer first.A: we guess there’s a character limit lol. Ok so tutorial continued from our above post: Part 2- please read part 1 of our answer first.A: we guess there’s a character limit lol. Ok so tutorial continued from our above post: This is the super easy part. Take you Essential oil blend you made or purchased that you want to infuse into the pads and add just enough oil to coat the bottom of the container. Add your clean and dried used scent pads to the container. You can add a few pads at a time .if you have a few like we do, we usually infuse 8 pads at a time, adding 3 pads at a time, add more oil to the container. Add just a little for now. No need to saturate them yet. Put lid on and give it a good shake. Continue this process until all your pads are in the container. Now once all the pads are in the container just look At the pads and see how much they soaked up The oil. You want the pads to look/ be fully coated but obviously not dripping in oil. we have tried it both ways. where we filled up the jar with oils and allowed the pads to infuse that way but we have found it just makes a mess when you insert them into the scent pad compartment on the humidifier with dripping oils. It’s not necessary and just wastes oils. So just add enough that the pads can soak up. This may entail letting them sit for a few days, check on them and add more scent/ oil as needed. When we infuse our pads we put just enough oil in the container to cover them. Store in your refrigerator. Then we check back a few days and the pads have the perfect amount infused. Before we use them, we let them infuse for a few days, like 3 or 4. we shake them up as often as we think of it just to stir them around because the pads will stick to each other if you don’t and then you’ll end up with dry patches with no oils and who wants that? Lol we try not to open the jar during this time but we will check them to see if some stuck together. Don’t use your fingers. use a pair of tweezers to handle them any time you touch them. So basically you’ve just knocked off or hacked the vapor/ scent pads. Keep the stored in the refrigerator AS IS until you’re ready to use them. Again, to use, take them out with tweezers and place in the scent/ vapor compartment of your humidifier. Enjoy. Hope this helps you

The mathematical reference is Ohm’s Law and the Power Triangle. If you plug an 110V appliance in 220V outlet (same as 120v to 230v, 240v) you can only hope that some protection device disconnects the power to the appliance. Otherwise: If it is some kind of heating device, (toaster, incandescent light, lamp, bulb, space heater) it will develop close to four times the designed heat, and probably burn out in minutes, or seconds. If it is some AC drive, it most likely will burn out very quickly. If it is a universal drive, (or DC), it may spin up to twice its intended speed, and wear out quickly.

See our insights (based on our own experience after purchasing and using the product, or based on some research work) on Vicks Filter-Free Ultrasonic Visible Cool Mist Humidifier for Medium rooms, these might be useful for better understanding.
Overview : our relative and we live in a 2,000 square foot apartment and have had this humidifier running full blast for 24 hours a day for almost a week and it works great. We put the unit in a central location in our place and it s perfect. (this was an upgrade for us, the previous humidifier we had was cheaper and was difficult/annoying to clean and somewhat noisy. It wasn t a vicks brand. )the good : this unit is much quieter and so much easier to clean than the non vicks brand we had before. The directions for cleaning this humidifier in the manual are very confusing and very different from videos you can find online that vicks makes. We follow the video and ignore the manuals cleaning instructions. The amount of cool mist is quite plentiful and eases our dry skin and airways. (no more breathing discomfort in the mornings. ) the tank holds enough water so we can run the unit at full blast for over 15 hours before a refill. We have read reviews about how it leaks water all over . We think that what the person may be referring to is the condensation that happens if the mist falls onto a surface such as a table or dresser. We ve overcome this by either placing a washrag just in front of the unit on the table or setting the humidifier close to the edge of the dresser so the mist falls down allowing it to dissipate without coming into contact with anything. (we don t have kids so there s no worries about it getting accidentally knocked over. ) the complaints about the sounds seem misunderstood. Yes, the unit makes noise; humidifiers do that. The sounds come from 3 different functions. 1) the motor that makes the unit work . It s a low-ish humming sound. 2) the bubbling created by the transducer (the round mist producing thing) 3) the periodic bubbling sound of the water moving from the tank into the reservoir leading to the transducer. Having used a cheaper non-vicks unit for the past 3 winters, this unit is by far superior in keeping these sounds to a minimum. (we are very light sleeper and none of these sounds bother us one bit. ) there is a place to put a scent pad; it came with 2 vicks vapor pads. We experimented with putting a few drops of essential oil onto a piece of tissue and used that instead . It worked well. Please watch the video we made to go along with this review. The not-so good : we can t think of anything so far.
This seems to be a pretty good humidifier. We have only had it about three or four weeks, so unfortunately this isn’t a long term report. (we really appreciate when people come back and review later. We will try. ) but we also got an anypro ultrasonic cool mist humidifier 3. 5l, and we can compare them a bit. We personally think we like this one better. This one holds more water, is larger and runs longer. It doesn’t put out anything close to the amount of steam that the anypro does when both are on high. But we find that the high setting of this is plenty for us. We have it close to our bed ( on top of our headboard, and the mist falls down directly onto me), so while the anypro leaves a very damp surface below it when on high, this vicks v4600 does not. For someone that really needs a lot of mist in the room the anypro might be better, but the mist on these ultrasonic humidifiers pretty much just falls down in front of the unit, so that might be a moot point. This does not have a night light such as the anypro does, but even though we love the idea of a night light, we found the anypro to be too bright, and the light on the knob is really bright in and of itself. It would be nice to have a soft light, especially so that you can see the water level, but we figure we can put a soft light next to the vicks if we need that. From the massive numbers of reviews we have read, research we have done and fails we have tried (it is hard to find a good humidifier. We doubt it is because difficult to make a good one, but more that companies would rather save money and sell you a new one in a few years), this should be one of the more sturdy ones (comparatively speaking). We found conflicting reports as to whether this has auto shutoff or not. Some info (even consumer reports) say it does not, but we finally contacted the right person at the right subsidiary and yes, it does have auto shutoff. We were concerned about that, especially with no light in the tank. The essential oil diffuser in the anypro is pretty worthless. It is just a little compartment that sits on top separate from anything else. You might as well put a drop of oil on your counter. We haven’t tried the pads for the vicks yet, as we just got a pad, but it seems promising. The compartment where you put the pad(s) (it can take two) gets warm at least. And it’s a vicks after all, built around the idea of vapors for colds, etc. So hoping for the best. If we got really serious about oils we would get an actual diffuser. Finding a decent humidifier is way harder than it should be. We hope this helps a little. Feel free to ask us questions in the comments if you like. We think we will get them. We have included a photo to show the difference in the amount of mist.
This is the fourth humidifier we have bought in the past five years, so unfortunately we are starting to feel like a humidifier expert. After the last one got impossible-to-clean mold in some inaccessible areas which made the mist come out smelling like a public pool changing room, it was back to the drawing board. So, this time around we were primarily looking for a humidifier that would be easy to clean and this one definitely delivers. The giant water hole in the bottom of the tank can easily fit your hand or a dish brush. We clean the central tube (where the mist comes out) with the end of a long wooden spoon and wash cloth. It really is the easiest to clean humidifier we have had. One thing we have learned from our other humidifiers is that you really do need to clean them out all the time, because once there’s some mold growth it is so much harder to get rid of it than prevent it. It isn’t the humidifier’s fault if there is mold growth (although some are treated with stuff to help, our last one was and it didn’t make a difference). Any wet environment is going to attract mold and bacteria. It’s a hassle but we have tried to get in the habit of emptying it and wiping it out every morning with a small amount of rubbing alcohol, then leaving both the base and the tank open over a towel to completely dry out during the day. Obviously that won’t work if you want to run it 24/7 but at least every few days it needs to be dried out and disinfected or you will get that nasty pink sludge or mildew growing, no matter what humidifier you buy. We also really like the design, with just a simple dial to adjust how much mist comes out. We run it almost on the highest setting all night and contrary to other reviewers have not noticed any water pooling around the unit or on the floor. It should be obvious, but it needs to be placed on a nightstand or higher up somewhere because if you do run it on the floor the mist can’t spread as far, so you’ll likely get no benefit from it and also end up with a soggy carpet.
Like with most small appliances, we did a lot of research before buying this. More than we usually do. We ended up down a rabbit hole of cool vs warm mist health benefits, expensive models with sensors, and 2 days later we finally pulled the trigger on this, and 2 months later, we couldn’t be happier. You get what you pay for, so although we think this is reasonably priced, you can’t expect something to work just as well as something 2, 3 or 4 times as expensive. If you don’t want to have to clean your machine frequently don’t buy a filter-less. If you don’t want to use trial and error to figure out which humidity setting works for your home and season, your gonna have to splurge on digital one. We felt compelled to write this long review since after using this for 2 months, we are upset that we almost let some other reviews deter me. We have a hard time replacing objects in our home that we have a perfectly working alternatives, but since we have very hard well water, with both types of iron, we were flying through filters at an insane rate last winter, so we wanted something filter-less that was easy to clean. We live in central new england, with a woodstove as primary heat and a forced hot air furnace, and a fairly open concept 1100sq house (500sq main living space), and this model has been a godsend. This winter started earlier than normal, so our annual “sign” (waking up with a bloody nose) to find, clean, and plug in the humidifier came sooner this year. As soon as it arrived, we got the thing running on full blast for 3 days straight, and we realized why there are some mediocre reviews, and heres a few reasons to ignore them. 1) not to lambast the other reviewers, but we dont think they understand how powerful this model is for its tiny size. In fact, we think the even the manufacturer has undersold it. Our old humidifier could run on high for about 36hrs without having to be refilled, and this one barely makes it 15 all the way up, with a similar sized tank. That’s a lot of water you’re pumping into the air, and that’s where all these “leaking” reviews are coming from we suspect. On day 3 of full blast (hindsight math, about 6 gallons of water) the weather had been rainy and warmer, and that’s when we came home to the machine “leaking”. Aka we had made the house so humid the machine was covered, then dripping, condensation on the floor. The manual warns against this, btw, that condensing can happen when you exceed 60% humidity. Without a digital read, we found that the inside of the tank starts condensing a while before the outside, so we just turn the machine down until the next time we have the woodstove cranking. 2) the machine is filter less, so you have to clean the machine more often than filtered ones. That pink and white buildup is not mold, its whatever is left after the hs and os of h o have evaporated out. So unless you’re strictly using distilled water, even the most expensive household water system isnt gonna remove everything else out, and what’s left is mineral “scale”. Filtered humidifiers pull most of this out in the filter, so that’s why you replace those and don’t see it in the tank. Regardless, you should be cleaning our humidifier anyway, but the audacity to leave a bad review because after 6 months there’s residue after not cleaning it is complete nonsense. 3) this machine is not noisy. Sure you can’t hear a pin drop while it’s on high, but despite it’s high powered ability, it does far less gurgling than our old one, one that was already so quiet it never woke our super light-sleeping husband. It’s soo quiet that. 4) the auto shut-off does work, just not when the tank is visible empty. Because the machine is so quiet, and after the condensation debacle, we had been running it on about quarter power (so no visible mist), and we forgot about the machine for a couple days. We got home one night, noticed the tank was empty and it was still running, so initally we thought the reviewers were right about the shut-off feature. But when we shut it off and picked up the tank, we realized the reservoir in the base was still full of water, so we decided to do an experiment to test the auto shut-off. We turned it back on to full blast, and about 30m later the machine shut itself off. We picked up the tank and the rest of the water was gone. Not that we plan to forget again, but it’s good to know when inevitably we do, the shut off works. 5) this machine is only slightly harder to clean than our old one. Pro: the tank has round edges with a large filling hole, big enough to get our hand and sponge in, and the easier to clean without corners. Con: the conical part is harder to get around (and clean itself) until we decided to use our wire handled bottle-brush to bend and shape around it and stuff down in to get to the bottom. So although we are usually hard pressed to leave 5 star reviews on mundane necessities, this one deserves it, so save yourself and your wallet and do some trial and error in your home with this machine.
This humidifier gets the job done, and is super easy to use. The good: it’s super easy to refill. You just lift off the tank, carry it to the sink to fill it, and then set it back down on the base. It doesn’t leak at all – it sits on a bookshelf, and there’s never even a drop of moisture under it. We saw people complain about that problem in the reviews of other humidifiers, so we thought we would mention it. It’s pretty quiet. It isn’t *silent*, and depending on how close this thing was to your head, or how sensitive you are, you might be annoyed. But it’s just a soft steady whirring noise – kinda like the sound of the heat vents on your car blowing warm air. It works. We bought a little $10 thermometer (we don’t think that’s the right word); so we know the humidity level in our home has gone up from 20% to about 35% thanks to using this humidifier. One side note: we live in an open-floorplan apartment in the city that’s about 650 square feet, and this unit is only recommended for use in a room that’s about 250 sf, we think. We thought about buying a second one to see if the two together would increase the humidity level more; but the bottom line is our skin isn’t dry and scaly anymore with just the little bit of increase, so we are satisfied. It’s attractive. It isn’t artwork or anything, but its smooth lines and ocean blue color over the white base are visually pleasing. The bad: we would say the only “bad” thing about this unit is that after several months of use, there’s an orange crusty buildup around the water intake. At first we thought it was some kind of mold, but when we touched it we realized it was hard and grainy, so we are assuming it’s some kind of mineral deposit from the water. But we don’t think we can blame that on the machine. Plus it isn’t visible on the outside of the machine, only when you’re refilling it.
It is much larger than we expected which is a welcome surprise. The fill hole is on the bottom of the blue unit and gets filled upside down. Has a nice long cord. Has a side door for 2 medicated pads. The company sent 1 as a sample along with coupons for additional pads. We have had a lingering cough for 10 weeks. Requiring antibiotics, a rescue inhaler and loads of meds. We have had it on medium in our room for several hours and am pleased to say it is curbing the cough. The big test will be sleeping through the night and waking up. Hopefully much more clear. We have a product to eliminate mold and fungus that we will spray between uses. It is botanical yet very powerful. Sol you guard. Yesterday our doc was sending us to er for more chest x-rays. We opted to wait to see if the humidifier would help. So far so good. If anything changes we will come back for and updatewe only wish we had not waited 10 weeks into sickness to purchase.
This is the second one of these that we are buying, and not to replace the older one, but to put it in a different room. There is a visible mist that you can see coming from the top when you turn it on. Even on it’s lowest setting you can see it. It really makes the air bearable in the winter time when often times the air becomes very dry here in north texas. When you use the vick’s vapor pads it emanates throughout the room(in a good way) and will make the air even easier to breathe in.
We bought this to replace an older model humidifier that becamr incredibly noisy. We were quite please that this humidifier is nearly silent while running. It puts out a decent amount of mist without soaking nearby surfaces. Somehow this hunidifier doesn’t use as much water as our previous one did. A gallon of distilled water will last almost 3 nights on medium. We are very pleased with this purchase and would buy again.
This machine works well. We’ve used it with and without the vapor pads and so far our only complaint is the cost of the vapor pads. They should be rechargeable or something by soaking them in the vicks liquid. The unit is easy to clean. We clean it once every one to two weeks and sterilize it each time with vinegar and bleach as instructed. We have had no mold issues in any area of it and the mist output is excellent at whichever setting you have it on the dial. It is intermittent on low, which is to be expected since it is trying to output a lesser amount of mist. If you place it on a wood surface we recommend having something under it to catch any water drops as you remove the canister to refill it. The lid can be difficult to remove, especially if you overtighten it after filling. This can be helped by filling with room temperature water so the canister lid and seal do not expand or contract with temperature differences. It does not have a nightlight in the general sense of the term. It’s power light on the output dial does glow green when it is on and can not be turned off without turning the unit off. Lastly, it is not silent. It has a “white noise” sound it emits as the mist is being cycled out. It’s not “loud” but it’s definitely audible.
Ordered this product with high hopes. Worked wonderful first couple of days of having it, could see the humidifier working like a champ. Then one night our son wakes us up saying hes hearing a chugging sound, we search his room after his pleas to look and find nothing till we notice there is no steam coming from the nozzle on top, and that is where we hear the chugging sound. We take the top off, turn it on and off to it still not working, only to give it a smack on top, the steam starts to come out again. Very displeased as this happened within 4 days of owning. We do run it every night, but not on high setting, and even if we did run it 24/7 on high we would expect a brand new item to hold out longer than five days. Going to try and clean the product to see if it’s just clogged, although we don’t see how, considering we don’t have hard water. Will update if cleaning it fixes the problem, if not then we shall be returning it promptly. Update: after cleaning the humidifier and rereading the reasons why the humidifier might not work, we have come to the conclusion that it has to be on a very level surface and you have to make sure the humidifier tank is set on the base completely or it will not work. Pleased with our purchase, maintenance is simple, quiet while operating, and the vapo warmer is a plus.
Love this humidifier- we logged on tonight to buy a second one for a second bedroom. We love this unit because (1) it creates a fine mist that stays in the air and doesn’t rain out on the tabletop (2) the opening is large enough to clean it out weekly so you’re sure you’re not spreading germs (3) it will put out a lot of mist on its highest setting but the tank is large enough to last the whole night (4) we can easily & quietly grab the tank and refill it without waking our daughter if we forget at bedtime or frankly just want to get her to bed on time (5) it has a subtle white noise hum but it’s quiet. We are on well water so use an ro (reverse osmosis) system so we never have any buildup but we could see how that may be a problem if you have hard water.
There are lot of things that we like about this humidifier: -large capacity -less frequent refills -large opening for refilling and cleaning -quiet (though we have it in the main living area, not a bedroom, so we cannot fully attest to this since we have not tried to sleep with it on) -mist can be directed easily since the output can be turned in any direction. -tank is easily removed and replaced, also has a handle so it is easy to grasp and carry. (before we bought this we noticed reviews complaining that the tank leaks when carrying it to/from the sink to refill- we can only assume people are carrying it with the opening facing down. Don’t do that. ) -keeps our first floor comfortable during winter months (small townhouse with radiator heating)we have not used the vapor pad thing, so we have no idea if that is a good feature or not. It’s not really what we bought it for anyway. Since using this humidifier we can tell it has made a huge improvement in our family’s health. Our sinuses are clear (no more stuffy noses or coughing which usually plague us during the winter months) and we feel less dehydrated. The only reason we gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is that the first unit we received was defective and leaked all over our counter. Luckily we caught it before it leaked on our floors. This was not a slight leak- it was the entirety of the tank. We know this because after the initial leak we tested it in the sink because we thought we might not have sealed the tank properly (not the case). Replaced it quickly and the next one we received was not defective. We read other reviews from people that had this same issue. Our suggestion is to test your humidifier in a tub or sink before you use it. Don’t plug it in, just fill the tank up all of the way and place it in the base. Wait a little while and then check on it. Overall we really like this humidifier. It’s too bad that so many of them have been defective. Hopefully vicks will fix the problem.
Best cool mist humidifier around. Fill up about 1x/day. Use filtered water to avoid the “white mist” all over your furniture. Soak in vinegar to clean if you have build up on the base or reservoir. We run two all winter long in a 1,500 sq. Foot apartment and it really helps. Just be sure to clean them regularly to keep in top condition and they will last you for years.
This is our 2nd winter with this and it’s still as good as new. We run it during the cold months because of an asthmatic cat which helps him tremendously. We run it every night, and clean it thoroughly after each use , jst soak both parts in super hot water with a little bleach, then clean each part and crevice thoroughly. Seems like alot, but it really isn’t if you do at least after each use or even every other use. Jst get in the habit of it. It works like new each time you do. We also try to add cold distilled water or purified. The colder and sanitary the humidifier is, the better the production and steam quality. When we add the vics pads to it, feels like we are soaking in a vics steam room. Works wonders.
We got this for our baby who was sick with a stuffy nose. Previous star light one was very hard to keep clean and filled the room with a white fog. This one doesn’t do that. You can see the mist coming out and helped with the stuffy nose and the dryness from running the heater during cold months. It’s not as loud as we expected based on other reviews. Almost soothing. Our 3 year old kept turning it on without us knowing and it would run all day. The tank does last a few days when ran continuously. Of 4 different ones we’ve owned this is our favorite. Filter free makes cleaning a breeze.
This is our first experience with an ultrasonic humidifier. We are used to the hot steam type or the evaporation type. This thing really blows out the mist. It seems to do the job efficiently and quietly. Our only issue is with the design. It’s sometimes a little tricky to align the reservoir onto the base without a lot of jiggling around. This is relatively minor, and perhaps it’ll become easier as we do it more often.
We love that this vaporizer has no filters to replace. It produces a nice, fine mist that doesn’t get things around it wet like our other cool mist humidifier did (not vicks brand – it was one shaped like a frog). Also, the light on the button is very minimal, so it shouldn’t disturb your sleep, but if you are sensitive to light like we are when trying to sleep, putting a book in front of it works just fine. Our last vicks vaporizer that had a dial like this one had a super bright led light surrounding the entire dial, and you couldn’t block it because the vent was right next to it. It was awful, so we are glad they’ve updated the design for both the dial and the mist vent on this model. We liked this vaporizer so much, we bought a second one just a couple weeks later, and we may buy a third. We live in a very dry area, so we like to run these in the bedrooms at night. Great purchase – highly recommend.
We loved our old 1 gallon vicks humidifier, what we didn’t like was buying filter replacements every month or 2 – depending on how often we used the machine. Our new vicks humidifier no filters is even better than the old one and quieter too. Our only issue is once the water is gone from the tank, the humidifier does not use the standing water left in the base of the machine, which can end up being a nice puddle size of water just left sitting. You need to make sure you dump the water and clean the base after every use.
So far we really enjoy this humidifier. We were nervous buying a non-filter version because of the mold factor, but so far this has been great. We use water from a softner, so perhaps we are lucky and getting away with not having to clean it so often. It is easy to clean, easy to use, our only gripe is that to really see the steam being created we have to have turned almost all the way up. If it’s even half way, we don’t see any steam that is produced and our littles room is an average size so we typically have it set closer to the max to get decent moisture in the air and that sucks up a lot of water, we are having to refill it basically every day; we use it anytime our little is asleep in their room.
We use a humidifier throughout the winter months. Have had at least 7 models over the years. Best feature is easy to clean, no filter; has a dim green light which is perfect. We have often struggled to find ways to tape over the bright blue night lights which are sleep killers for us. Good capacity, only refill every 2-3 nights.
