Our Insights:

See our insights (primarily based on our personal expertise after buying and utilizing the product, or primarily based on some research work) on Vicks Nursery Vaporizer with Night-Light Warm Steam Vaporizer, these may be helpful for better understanding.

We’ve had this vaporizer (or presumably an earlier mannequin that appears identical to it) for a minimum of seven years. We expect we paid about $21 at an in-person retailer. It nonetheless works simply high quality, and we’ve used it most winter nights ever since we obtained it. If it broke the primary time we used it subsequent winter, we might buy one other one instantly. The approach the unit works is that it runs electrical energy by means of the water between a pair of electrodes in a confined house, and {the electrical} resistance of the water heats the water to boiling. Steam boils out of the highest of the confined house by means of a vent, and more water enters from the water reservoir. The water must be barely salty (or produce other dissolved minerals) as a result of very pure water is simply too poor a conductor to permit sufficient electrical energy by means of the water to warmth it to boiling. The key to creating it work properly is getting the amount of salt proper. An excessive amount of salt, and it generates steam too rapidly; the room will get too heat, and it runs out of water a part of the way in which by means of the night time. Not sufficient salt, and it would not generate sufficient steam. The quantity vital is determined by how the quantity of dissolved minerals there are within the faucet water. If the faucet water has plenty of dissolved minerals (“hard) water, or the slightly salty water one gets after running hard water through a softener), it doesn’t need much salt, and may not need any. If the tap water has very few dissolved solids (naturally “comfortable” water, rain water, etc. ), one must add a comparatively large amount of salt. In addition to adding humidity to the room, it warms the air somewhat. Since one normally needs a humidifier only when heating chilly air, that shouldn’t be a problem, but the added heat might be uncomfortable if the air is dry because one lives in a desert. Heating the water to boiling requires more electricity than other types of humidifiers (ultrasonic and evaporative), but it produces pure steam. By contrast, an ultrasonic humidifier produces tiny drops of water that evaporate quickly, leaving any dissolved solids floating in the air as dust that settles out everywhere. In an evaporative humidifier the dissolved solids are left behind on the evaporation fiber, eventually fouling it with crud. If there’s any microbial growth in the water, a steam humidifier kills it as it boils the water, but an ultrasonic humidifier sprays it into the air with the water mist, and in an evaporative humidifier it grows on the evaporation fiber until it smells. One thing some people don’t like about this type of unit is that black crud flakes off the electrodes and settles into the bottom of the water reservoir. (see photo. ) it’s harmless, but it looks icky. Some of the black flakes are probably part of the electrodes themselves, and if that’s the case the electrodes will eventually erode away to the point that the unit stops working, but we haven’t had that problem, and the unit is so inexpensive that we wouldn’t complain if it did.

We have purchased 4 of these units over the past 5 years, for both home and office. The units have been the 1 gallon and 1. 5 gallon size. They work exactly the same, except the 1. 5 gallon size holds 50% more water. They take a little getting used to because they rely on conductivity of water to allow electricity to pass between electrodes to boil water and create steam. The way you control how much steam comes out is to adjust how much salt you add (depending on the mineral contents already in your water). If you plug the machine in and after a few minutes, no steam is added, added a small pinch of salt into the water. If it the unit does still not create steam add more salt until it does. Unless you happen to have a defective unit, it will work. Next time using the machine, put enough salt in from the beginning to make sure the water can boil. If you don’t have enough minerals of salt dissolved in the water, the unit will produce no to little steam. In that case the simple remedy is to add a pinch more salt, until the unit is producing sufficent steam. If you have too much salt or minerals in the water, the machine will put out a lot of steam and can make a room noticeably hot and very humid. If that happens, pour the water out, refill the machine and simply put less salt in so it produces less steam. It takes a couple uses to get comfortable with how these machines work. They are basic, they don’t have switches to break, filters to replace, de scalers to buy or countless other go wrong. They are super easy to maintain and work for years. If you use the machine and the water is gone, there is no current to pass between electrodes, basically creating a self shut off switch. The light can stay on, by the way, but once the electrodes are not covered in water there is no current being passed. Maintaining these units is both easier and faster than cool mist humidifiers. These steam humidifiers boil water to create steam, boiling water should kill most bacteria, mold or viruses that are in the water, so even if you are not perfectly fastidious with cleaning the unit, not much “crap” should be going into the air. Since it’s just steam, you won’t find mineral particles around the room, like you would on cool mist humidifiers. To clean the units, we change the water daily and as long as we do that, we will just fill up and rinse the water tank with very hot water. If we don’t use the machine or forget to dump the water after a day, we will add a few table spoons to a half a cup of white vintage and slosh it around and then rinse in cold water until there is no smell of vinegar. We will also swish water through the top part. We have poured down the top and turned up upside down and poured water in. To date, that hasn’t broken any of the units. Once a year we will cut the top off of a 2 liter soda bottle and stick the unit in filled up with hot water and white vinegar. If you leave the water in the tank for a long time, it will grow mold and mildew. The instructions say to use either some bleach and water or we use white vinegar and hot water to clean it. If you see black flakes or particles in the water, it’s just carbon from the electrodes. This will happen day one and the unit is fine and should work for years. Every humidifier takes maintaince to ensure it’s running well and is pumping clean mist out. These units make that part easy and forgiving in terms of not pumping out musty, moldy water. The downside if any is that you are boiling water through the conduction of electricity through water. Resistance to the current builds heat which boils the water. It’s like the heating element of a toaster or an electric stove in terms of how the heat is generated. If you use the machines overnight in multiple rooms, you will most likely notice a difference in your electricity bill. If that’s not a trade off you are comfortable making, don’t use them. We also have one at our desk at work and keep it on the floor next to us and try to remember to breathe the steam in frequently. If you want to use vicks or kaz’s products to put some menthol or camphor type scents into the air, they work fine, we like to use a few drops of essential oils like eucalyptus instead. If you are sick and need to open your sinuses, cover your head with a towel and breathe the steam in. Start with your face about 18-24 inches away to make sure you don’t burn your face. Slowly bring your face closer to the unit to breathe as much steam in as possible. Take care to move your face in carefully and slowly as you are breathing in steam not a cool mist and you can burn yourself if you get too close. Speaking of burns, we have small children and we use a unit in their room at night. Our four year old knows not to touch it and our one year old is in a crib. If you have children who can get too close and or touch the steam stream, they can get burned, so take the necessary precautions to make sure that does not happen (move it away from small hands) or don’t buy the unit. We hope that helps.

We read a ton of humidifier reviews before finally settling on this one. We wanted a warm mist humidifier because we had a cool mist one previously that didn’t seem to work very well. We wanted to be able to see the mist to ensure it was doing its job, and we didn’t mind a little extra heat being that it is winter in the frigid north. There aren’t a ton of warm mist humidifier options: it’s basically between this (and similar models) and ones that have a filter. We knew we didn’t want to have to keep a filter clean or buy new ones, so we picked this humidifier. Pros:- warm mist: can see it working. – inexpensive- night light feature- spot to place essential oils- easy to refill and assemble: just twist off the blue piece and carry the tank to the sink or bathroom to fill. No filter or lots of parts to take apart and clean. Cons:- size: we wish the tank were slightly larger so that it would run all night without stopping- slightly awkward to clean: because of the lip on the opening, you cannot get all of the water to drain when you dump it out. We use a paper towel to dry up the last bit of water that’s left in there. Not a big deal. – ugly as sin- night light cannot be turned off/onsome tips:- we use plain old tap water from the sink to fill our humidifier. This works fine, but we found that adding a 1/2 teaspoon of salt helps the water to boil better (we believe the heating mechanism works better with the salt dissolved in the water). Before we started adding salt, the tank would still be half full after running all night (8 hrs). When we add salt, the tank is usually empty after 6 hrs or so. – you may notice some black debris in your tank after running it. This is just material flaking off of the heating device, and not bacteria or mold. We just swish some water in the tank and dump it out before we refill it every night to get rid of it. – from a safety perspective, we think this is one of the better humidifiers out there. Because it is a warm mist system, the water in the tank is being boiled while the humidifier is running. Cool mist humidifiers do not boil the water. This model also has very few parts, so fewer places for bacteria/mold to grow, and fewer things we need to clean. We don’t have to worry about biofilm build up on filters or reservoirs, which is great.

This is a lifesaver. We live in colorado and it’s super dry here. We like this because it doesn’t make the room cold like our humidifier does. The visible steam is nice because we are constantly checking to see if our cool mist (not visible) humidifier is even working. We do have to add salt to mine occasionally because it doesn’t seem to start up right away. When we add salt itt makes a weird suction type noise, however, that noise only lasts for a few minutes. We will likely be buying another one for our other room.

The vicks 1 gallon vaporizer works very well. Steam production is strong. Heater is powerful and creates steam almost immediately even when submerged in cold water. Having a vaporizer in the bedroom is a game changer – we feel that it helps prevent colds and shorten the duration of a cold by keeping the nasal passages, throat, and other mucous membranes moist. The medical research is mixed on this – it works for some and not others. For me, it works. The trouble is this: the capacity of the “water tank” is too small. We find that we have to keep a bunch of bottles full of water next to the vaporizer to refill it – it really barely lasts through a night of sleep (ie 6-7 hours). We just can’t believe the reviews where some people talk of steam for 18 hours. Huh? this is hard to fathom. Perhaps if one lives 250 feel below sea level in death valley would they get that amount of steam production . We live at sea level in coastal california so our experience should be rather standard. If we were in colorado at 6000 feet and lower atmospheric pressure it would steam faster and water would run out quicker. But this is not the case. And though the capacity of the unit seems to be technically a gallon, you can’t fill it up to the top or the heater will sputter out a lot of water and you’ll need a towel to protect your floor from all the splatter. The “max” line is much lower than full capacity if the tank. It is also super noisy when full and splattering, of course. As of this writing (feb 2, 2015) the price on the 1 gallon unit is something like $28. We bought mine a couple of weeks ago for $15 but we have seen it much higher in past. We have also seen special prices for “prime solely” customers which we are. Don’t know why price varies so much. We are returning the unit once the new 1. 5 gallon unit we ordered arrives in the next couple of days. We would strongly recommend getting the 1. 5 gallon vaporizer if you want to have it running uninterrupted overnight and if you want to avoid the hassle of constant refillings. We shall see but we are expecting maybe 10-11 hours between fillings on the 1. 5 gallon unit while the 1 gallon unit involves about 6-7 hours between fillings. But maybe the configuration of the tank and heater in the 1. 5 gallon unit is better designed and will last longer – who knows. So 4 stars for simple operation and solid ability to create a lot of steam, but deduct 1 star from 5 because of refilling hassle.

Ok so we are going to start with saying. This is a vaporizer not a humidifier. Yes it puts water vapor in the air. But it does not blow moisture like a humidifier. Now that being said. First thing. Read the instructions. Keep it clean. So first night. On the usa model you can put the vape liquid right in the water. That’s what we did at the recommended 1 tbs per quart. We have a 1800 sqft house. We could smell it thru the whole house. Without ac on. Wife could breathe so much easier following day. 2nd night. Tried to put liquid in little reservoir instead of in water. Did not work as well. 3rd night. Cut down to 2tbs for the whole gallon. Was just right. Wife still got great sinus relief. We did not have to add any salt to make steam. And reservoir lasted roughly 7hrs. Only downfall that we see is. Its a 1 gallon reservoir. But it shuts off for safety with like 1 inch left in it. So out of 4 quarts you get to use roughly 3. Seems kind of wasteful. But it is what it is. Wife has had sinus congestion for about 3 months now. Doctors trying different meds. And this vaporizer has given her better relief than any of the meds. She can sleep and breath +++. Dump it everyday. Rinse it. Start fresh. Works great.

This was purchased as a gift and was listed as what the recipient wanted. She is very happy with it. We did have one of these previously though, so thought we would leave a review. It worked very well. Auto shut off worked well, and we like that it could take the menthol vapor fluid when you are sick. Cons: it was difficult to fill and made a mess when you would remove the vaporizing unit from the tanks. We have since upgraded to an ultrasonic humidifier for our own personal use, and do prefer it to the heated vaporizer. The ultrasonics are quieter, easier to fill, and are little bit more comfortable feeling in your house. (the hot vaporizer reminds us of the hot humidity in our house after a hurricane in south florida, when we were without power for 10 days in august. ) again, this is a good unit and well priced. We just think you’ll end up wanting to upgrade to an ultrasonic in the future.

It seemed to work very well as long as we added enough salt. We plan to later use the medicine cup for essential oils and vicks vapo liquid after checking to see what is safe to use with our pet. We have purchased various humidifiers over the past few years and these vaporizers seem to work nearly as well, giving almost, but not quite, the same output. We like the simplicity of the design and the price. We would give it 5 stars if it gave off more steam and we didn’t have to add salt. We would have given 5 stars for usdicine vaporizer and not humidifier because it is a sturdy easy to operate design. After trying various tabletop humidifiers, we would recommend this product over them all. Thanks, vicks.

This vaporizer has just what other little current humidifiers don’t – a warm mist, and a place to put either vicks solid or liquid to help with congestion. Our regular humidifier did nothing to help us during a recent cold, so we ordered this one. It’s similar to the hot steam vaporizers of years gone by, but updated for safety (no more hot steam, just gentle warm vapor). There’s a tiny cup on the top where you put the vicks/menthol solution. When we woke up in the middle of the night our large bedroom was nicely warmed and humidified, not to mention having the soothing effects of the methol in the air. It holds a large capacity of water (runs for 12-18 hours). Quiet, with a very soft nightlight. This would be perfect for babies and small children who are ill with cold and/or congestion.

Have a bad cold? bad cough? very dry air? breathing issues? pollen sufferings? grab one of these and they work wonders. Use with or without vicks vapo-steam (pads or liquid). This reduces greatly on meds needed to treat or ease of suffering: colds, coughs, breathing, etc. Very soothing – and plus pets love it too. We have had dogs and cats and even birds. They get excited when we have this on. We grew up with this and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Good side: it’s plastic and has safety features. Bad side: being plastic and if you use this frequently; even with well care – it has a life span of 2-3 years which means the unit will have to be replaced; especially true if you reside in extremely hard-water area. We recommend to use distilled water or spring water, rather than tap water.

Vicks nursery vaporizer every parent should have oneit help with congestion and calms baby so they can go to sleep. It has a night light that helps you see the cord so no one trips on it if they have to get up in the middle of the night. Very nice safety ideal with the night light. Not only does it give enough light for safety reason on the cord. But it gives off a tiny soothing light in the middle of the night to help the parents who is always checking on there baby through out the night and dont want to disturbed them by flicking on a bright light and waking the baby up. The only thing that could be considered changing with the vaperizer is it would be nice to have a steam setting on it to where you can control how warm or hot you want it to be . We found that the water does get hot in the machine . That’s not necessary a bad thing it is a steam humidifier and some may need it hot but there maybe some parents that just might want to have a warm steam not so hot to come out . So we think a control switch would be a ideal thing since the water tends to get very hot in it. But only our opinion as we said in the beginning every parent so have one for there little one this is a awesome product and very worth it and you can’t beat the price we did our research and this is the most affordable well made theres no doubt in our mind we will be purchasing another one for our second room so we dont have to keep moving it back and forthsincerelybecky.

***update***we got this new and filled it up. The first night it was so loud that we had to unplug it. The next day, the water was very dirty. We ran it with some vinegar and washed it out. This made all the difference and now it’s running great and not making any noise. Also, we had to add a couple tablespoons of salt to the water before it would produce any steam. Now that we have everything sorted out, we are very pleased.

You need to rinse this after every use if you are running very “onerous” water by means of it frequently. We reside in a tough water space, and rinse it with plain water (the onerous water lol) per directions for a few minutes earlier than utilizing it. Will get plenty of construct up out, helps it steam better. This can be a nursery measurement, that means a small room. We used it for our main bedroom to simply take the sting off of our nostril bleeds attributable to dry air within the winter, it was efficient for this objective however did not assist us after we have been congested (not sufficient steam for the massive room). There’s a bigger measurement we used to personal of this product that will be more applicable for bigger rooms.

We selected this machine bcuz of the model identify, its what we used as a toddler. It s definitely lived as much as its identify. You’ll be able to see the steam working, which we desire, and the aroma packets we bought collectively with it work excellent in our massive main bedroom the place our child sleeps. It helped her tremendously with her unhealthy cough, after her pediatrician really useful we buy it. So glad we did.

We purchased it so as to add more moisture into the air in our residence (not for whenever you’re sick. ) we selected it as a result of it has a big capability and was an inexpensive value. It really works good, does precisely what we’d like it to. Initially we have been nervous so as to add an excessive amount of salt to the water, so the water was very gradual to vaporize, however over time we added more and haven’t figured out the proper quantity to get it vaporizing completely. To wash it, each few makes use of we fill it with water and a splash of vinegar and let it sit, then shake it facet to facet somewhat and all of the construct up falls out. Easy. We gave it a 4 for noise as it isn’t silent, however you barely hear it, it is like a comfortable comfortable boiling water sound. We frequently overlook we’ve left it on so it isn’t invasive for us in any respect. We’d completely suggest it.

You probably have a child or younger youngster it’s essential to have a vaporizer in your house. We use mine with the vicks liquid and it helps our child and our different youngsters to cease coughing. You simply need to carry on prime of the cleansing and sustaining your vaporizer. We’ve had mine for years however we have to clear it with white vinegar and make it possible for we clear it out after utilizing it.

Throughout the chilly winter months in new england is difficult to maintain our 4yr outdated nostril bleeds beneath management due to the dryness. After attempting the chilly mist humidifier with little success we ordered this heat mist from vick s and can’t imagine the change. Really makes the room more snug and no more nosebleeds. We run it each night time and nonetheless works completely. We want the tank was larger however different than that we’re very completely happy. Gives heat mist for 7-8hrs.

That is our second one in every of these. We purchased one final winter too. They’re principally solely good for one season and are disposable after that. That is okay, we do not have an issue with that. They work nice at first, and then sort of taper off after a few months of use. For the value, we do not anticipate any more than that. We’d give it 5 begins in the event that they lasted longer, however we simply learn the opposite opinions and wish to say:1. Sure it’s a little onerous to empty the outdated water that has traces of the heating parts in it, however we thoughts. 2. Sure the heating parts deteriorate (which is why they do not final and we’ve to exchange it yearly) however we do not assume any of that comes out with the steam. We could also be flawed, however we have been all the time instructed that boiling water and utilizing the steam was a strategy to purify soiled water. Like in a nonetheless. We could also be flawed.

It appear to do precisely what it stated it could do. Preserve the room from getting overly dry. It does elevate the temp of the room a few deg which isn’t a nasty factor in our a part of the us through the winter months. And the unit may be very simple to retailer and clear up. However everytime it is used there’s a little bit of black residue and that ends in the digital elements to put on out and we’re certain it’s going to finally cease working.
