Our Insights:

See our insights (based on our own experience after purchasing and using the product, or based on some research work) on Vicks Personal Steam Inhaler, these might be useful for better understanding.

This device is exactly what it’s advertised to be, and that’s fine with me. Ultimately:-it’s a small hot plate with a built-in reservoir for water. -it has 3 vents for steam to pass through; the sizes of which can be adjusted using a small lever on the outside. -“vapopads” can be placed on top of the vent mechanism (in keyed depressions. )yes, it has to stay on a stable surface when using it. And, yes, we wish there existed a cordless version that never ran out of water and that we could hold in our hand. Preferably, it would fold up and we could put it in our pocket too. However, we realize that fundamentally, this is a device that simply boils water. That means that you should think of it as a pan of water being heated on a stovetop. It shouldn’t be moved during operation or anytime soon thereafter. It produces enough steam to be therapeutic, yet this also means that if you are foolhardy, you can burn yourself. It’s steam. That’s how it works. This isn’t the designers fault, it’s just the laws of physics coming up against the line of where we can damage ourselves. If you want a device that produces an appropriate amount of steam for a single person (with optional vicks vapor), then this does exactly that. We like it.

We always seem to get a bad cough that lasts from november until about august. Our doctor says once it settles in our chest it is very difficult to get rid of, and he even recommended that we relocate to arizona. So, we have suffered constantly with our cough for many years with little relief, taking every otc med we can find and relying on cough drops by the bag full. Nothing worked. We saw this steam inhaler years ago but the reviews were not stellar so we hesitated, until now. Beyond desperation, we ordered it and used it for 15 minutes twice a day. In five days we could feel improvement and by the seventh day our cough was gone. We now use it occasionally to prevent the cough from returning. It has been the best thing ever. Ignore any negative reviews and just buy it if you have a cough that won’t go away. It works. We promise you that.

Read the instructions people. Don’t mash your face into the opening & you won’t burn your face. Don’t overfill it & don’t add water while the unit is hot or it will probably crack. Put it on a table & sit calmly while you inhale & exhale. Treat it like a very hot cup of tea & you probably won’t get burnt from it spilling. We have been using this for years and years & have never burnt ourself. This is the best steamer for asthma, allergies & any respiratory illnesses. When used properly it can last you for a very long time & will be your best friend when you are itching and congested. Very calming. Easy to use & clean. Love it. Happy breathing, folks.

This thing is an absolute gold for people with reactive airway. We go through the same cycle at least twice a year – it starts with sinus congestion, moves on to our throat the next day, and the morning after that we wake up with a full-blown bronchitis, that requires a visit to a doc and a couple of weeks on antibiotics to clear both, the sinus infection and the lungs. Now we use this inhaler at the first sign of stuffy nose up to three times a day and wake up feeling better than ever. Even got our sense of smell back. There is just enough steam to soothe the tickle in our throat and to clear the nose. Our mom used to have us sit over a steaming pot under the towel when we were a kid. This thing works even better than the old-fashioned method. We recommend this to anyone with asthma, too.

Had this thing since 2008, and still using it. You can’t beat it with a ten-foot pole. Get yours today before they stop making these. After 8 years, this thing is dubbed a work horse. Great for singers and speakers, use before and after your gig or engagement. You don’t need to add any oils, just regular plain ole water.

We like the product. However there is a safety issue that should be fixed. It won t shutoff when it s out of water which can be a fire hazard. On more than one occasion we walked away from it while it was heating up only to forget about it. Fyi.

What a nifty little appliance. It’s helping soothe and clear the congestion in our airways. From the flu. So relaxing. Soothing relief from coughing and congestion from the flu. In reading up on steam inhalers it’s nice to know they help with opening pores on your face, too. It’s doing double duty. Read about adding essential oils, fresh herbs, or green tea to water. A lovely facial. And doing this at night just before bedtime is a great way to relax and be ready for sleep. We can see ourself using this after the flu is gone. Great product.

We love this. We purchased it after reading many articles that recommended it for vocalists. We sing in a local rock band a couple times a week, and talk a lot at our day job. We have begun using the steam inhaler prior to every gig, and have found that it has helped sooth and restore our throat/voice (in addition to gargling warm salt water). We have been singing in bands for 20 years, and wish we had found this sooner. Even through allergy season, this was a huge help. It’s super easy to use and to clean. We have been recommending it to others who we have heard talk about tired or worn out voice (or sinus issues affecting their voice).

This steamer works about the same as a bowl of hot water and a towel, but it’s easier to use. The one we received has plenty of steam. It takes a few minutes to get the steam going as it has to boil the water, as expected. It helps to close the vent while it heats up and then open it up when it’s fully heated. We ordered the vapopads and a bottle of breathe essential oil blend. When the vapopad got a little weak, we put it in a baggie with a few drops of the essential oil and allowed it to soak up the oil. It worked well, maybe not quite as strong smelling as the first use of the vapopad, but a lot cheaper. We also found the oil less irritating to our eyes. If we all get sick, this should do the job though.

Good product. We did not use the enclosed menthol pack as we were concerned about breathing extra unnecessary chemicals when our lungs already were damaged and ravaged from a lingering dry cough. We think the steam helped to break up the tight mucus. It takes a few minutes to heat up. Then, it gets very hot which is good. However, we had to be careful not to get too close for fear of burning our skin. There is no way we could rest our face on the soft plastic area that looks to be designed for this purpose. That is okay though. It was not necessary to rest our head and we felt we could adjust the heat of the steam by moving our head back and forth as desired. The steam that is produced is abundant and lasts for a while. We never felt the need to refill it mid use. Definitely one would need to be mindful of using this device around children as the steam gets hot. We are happy to have it and to be prepared next time the evil flu/cold monster catches up with me.

When the air gets too dry – in winter from dry heat or in summer from air conditioning – we are prone to sinus headaches that start with a dry feeling in the left side of our nose and face, grow into a dull ache in our left temple, and if really bad can proceed into a migraine-type with nausea, sensitivity to light and noise, and 5 or 6 hours with a cold wet cloth over our face. In winter we can pump a gallon or two of water into the air with our trusty vicks hot mist room humidifier , but in the summer that’s not practical. Just got this wonderful little gadget and have already staved off dry sinus headaches several times. Just remember that the steam is really hot. We would not use this for a child without constant supervision, and don’t use if on meds that make you sleepy or unable to react quickly.

Not quit a steam room but works well. Steam gets pretty hot so be careful. Item helps to loosen up blockage in sinus passages, helping with congestion. Buy the kaz pads as they work better with this than vicks’ own pads. Soothes on cold and dry winter days, really helps.

Read so many mixed reviews and was initially skeptical on how this product would finally be. Ended up ordered it anyways as this is a trusted brand. Received the product in pristine condition, no issue with packaging either. Easy to assemble. Instructions are straight forward. Have been using this for almost a month now and it works fine. Does the job, value for money.

We were a bit skeptical because of some of the negative reviews. However, after getting this product, we think it may be possible that some of the reviewers didn’t read the directions first because if they had and used the product accordingly, some of the complaints would be impossible. First of all, the machine isn’t going to tip over if you are putting your face close to, but not on, the plastic to inhale the steam. That what the directions suggest and it works fantastically this way, even for our ten and eight year olds. Cleaning the product is easy, just rinse and let dry. This is going to save us lots of $$ in the winter when we tend to get respiratory related illnesses, as we usually sit in the bathroom several times a day with the hot shower running breathing in the steam. We highly recommend this product.

We are vocalist in artist development and have random bouts of allergies and nasal drainage that require medications that dry out our vocal cords and lead to hoarseness. This product was recommended to us to help keep them extra hydrated (along with extra water intake) and it helps us throat and voice feel amazing. We use it on a regularly basis now, before longer practices/recording/performing and it just really helps keep our airways open and that extra bit of hydration for best sound quality. Highly recommend for those suffering from allergies and drying out issues.

Vicks personal steam inhaler works great. The steam a little bit too hot with the lowest setting but we prefer the stream hot more than low steam this way we can adjust our face position that feel right for us. It does help with nasal congestion and. It works best when you put some vicks drops on the pad that it comes with. Do not add any oil direct to the water it might cause the hot water to splash. We think there are couple of things they could do to improve it. We wish there was an auto shut off when ran out of water or even just a timer to turn off. Also on the back where adjust the steam level has open space if the steamer is knocked off it could spill the boiling water on you. If you are careful not to not touch the steamer while using it and keep kids away when you use the steam, this is the good item to buy to relieve nasal congestion.

We used this to help with chronic sinusitis for both our husband and ourself. It works really well. And we just put fresh essential oil on the pad they provide instead of buying refills.

Bought this to help us breathe while recovering from pneumonia. It is small enough to take with for travel. And it is very easy to use. It really helped immensely. Note: be cautious of the steam. Do not put your whole face into the mask. You must keep your face a couple of inches off the mask in order to not burn yourself. Extremely hot.

Steam inhalers provide quicker and better relief than ingesting all the acetomenophen, doxylamines and hurting your liver. These otc ones just suppress the mucus. For better quicker and relief, for kids, we use these steam inhalers with camphor or vicks gel, couple sessions, and third day you feel a lot better. We felt it with our kid and ourself.

Just ordered this this morning and received it today (literally 20 minutes ago). Our acute bronchitis comes randomly during this time of year and we figured its about time we bought one of these things. Setting it up was easy and simple. It worked wonders, we can feel a difference in our chest. We can breathe a little better and our sinuses cleared up just a little bit (we somehow produce a looooot of mucus). Going to be using this every night before bed.
